The Seldom Seen Kid, released in 2008, was the album that finally broke it for Elbow, a long-suffering band from near Manchester who'd been signed and dropped from a plethora of labels, through no great fault of their own. It was a sign of how well liked and appreciated the band are when back in 2008 when it was announced the band had won the impressive Mercury Award for music, the music journalists covering the announcement - who usually clap for nothing or no one - actually gave the band a standing ovation. Elbow had arrived. Quality act, quality band.
