Emergenza is the world's biggest festival for unsigned bands, with an average of 6,000 bands participating every year in 200 different cities all over the world. Every year the national finalists gets to spend three days in Germany at the Taubertal Open Air festival, where the world final takes place, with an average of 30,000 people showing up over the weekend. This is where, every year, the best band wins a professional production for their first album and where plenty of other musicians are rewarder for their skills with prizes from the festival's sponsors.

After leaving college, Ó Briain began working at RTÉ as a children's TV presenter. At this time he also began performing his first stand-up gigs on the Irish comedy circuit. He admitted, "I did the trip from Donegal to Dublin to play to six people; then I turned round and drove home again. I did about three or four years playing to a lot of bad rooms, but learning as I went. It's not bad when someone gives you 40 quid for standing up and telling jokes. I remember thinking: 'This is the life.'"

Vitalic is an electronic music artist. He was born in France and is of Italian descent. His first singles were released in 1996 and 1997, but were confined to the underground electronic music scene. However, he became good friends with Michel Amato, also known as The Hacker, whom he met in the Rex, the "techno temple" of Laurent Garnier. The Hacker suggested he send his new tracks to DJ Hell, head of Gigolo records in Munich. Pascal did so, and International DeeJay Gigolo Records, released the well known Poney EP in 2001, which was a huge success shortly after its release. With the track "La Rock 01", Vitalic created a club anthem which was a hit in the summer of 2001. The track was also included on many compilation albums, even rock compilations.

The young inheritor of the bleepy baton from the likes of Warp, Swag's Chris Duckenfield, Pipes, original forge master Winston Hazel, he's the steel cherry riding atop a rich musical heritage for a city that's always liked it RUFF. His 40 track Ghettoblaster mixtape (hosted by motor mouth Mr. Versatile) was hailed best mix of the year by FACT magazine (and massively downloaded). His production fingers have delved into the likes of indie peddler Jack Penate, guitaros Jackobinarina and a collaboration with ex-Moloko hot pot, Roisin Murphy.

Kenny Dixon Jr also known as Moodymann is a techno/house musician based in Detroit, Michigan. He creates a thoroughly hybrid form of techno/house dance music via his innovative use of reworked riffs, samples, including old movie sound track samples, mainly culled from the old blaxploitation and b-movie genres and grooves taken from that city's historically influential jazz, soul, funk, and disco scene. He also shares very political views on the current state of techno, decrying the lack of black techno and the white domination of the genre.

Entry by donation on the door; all proceeds will be donated support the aid effort in Haiti. Sarsparilla was raised in a small synth community in the green mountains of Wicklow. He soon found their small town ways oppressive and formed an escape plan with his then mentor, John Carpenter. These men promptly escaped into the Dublin underground, soon master Carpenter moved to the US, but Sarsparilla stayed in Ireland to forge his own distinctive synthesized soundscapes. Utilizing the techniques master Carpenter had taught him and building upon them, he has crafted his own sound that is nothing short of extraordinary!

The National Gallery of Ireland's famous Vaughan collection of watercolours by JMW Turner (1775-1851) will be on display for the month of January. It includes Turner's most striking works in watercolour painted during his later European tours: the Doge's Palace in Venice, Lake Lucerne, and the fortresses at Bellinzona in Switzerland. This year the exhibition will be complemented by a display of seventeenth-, eight eenth- and nineteenth-century silhouettes and miniatures from the Mary A. McNeill Bequest, comprising works by John Comerford, Richard Crosse and William Grimaldi.

Between Metaphor and Object features a range of works from the IMMA Collection, primarily sculptures and installation works from the 1990s. It provides perspectives on the diversity of practice that is represented in the IMMA Collection from this period, explores its particularities, and considers them in the context of international trends of the decade. The title of the exhibition references perceived polarities in art since the 1960s and also proposes the idea of the continuous flux visited upon artworks in the mind of the viewer between symbolism and objecthood. Notably the exhibition incorporates a number of pieces from the Weltkunst Collection, which is on loan to IMMA since 1994. This significant collection of British sculpture and drawings of the 1980s and ‘90s will return to the Weltkunst Foundation in 2010 and the exhibition acknowledges the generous loan of these works.

Comedian Brendan O'Carroll is bringing Mrs Brown to the BBC in a new TV series. A pilot show was filmed in front of a live audience in Scotland in October and will be screened by RTE, which is involved in the production, over the Christmas period. The BBC will also show the pilot later next year ahead of the screening of all six episodes.

Since he burst onto the scene in 2005 with the oddball classic ‘Deep Throat’ Barclay Crenshaw, aka Claude VonStroke has risen rapidly to very top of the DJ/Producer spectrum. His early productions, ‘Chimps ‘, ‘The Whistler’ and of course the mighty ‘Who’s Afraid Of Detroit’, were a true breath of fresh air amongst the stifling onslaught of minimal. Its not too big a statement, to say that it was these releases, with their inspired construction, crazy samples, and heavy basslines that really brought ‘fun’ back to the world’s dancefloors at a time when its was deemed ‘cool’ to be moody.

Nobody has ever seen a living dinosaur, but scientists can give us a good idea of what they looked like and how they moved. We often imagine dinosaurs as colossal flesh-eating beasts that lived on our planet for an incredible 160 million years. Some were indeed gigantic, but many were only as heavy as a Labrador dog and many were vegetarian! Did you know that the Ornithomimus could run faster than an Olympic sprinter? See how the sociable Triceratops lived in herds, caring for and protecting their young. Meet Dilophosaurus, a relative of the first dinosaur found in Scotland. Come face to face with the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the fiercest land predators ever known. This massive animatronic model, 4 metres tall and 7 metres long, is so lifelike you’ll think it’s the real thing! Walk past the head of a hungry Tyrannosaurus and watch as his terrifying jaws go SNAP!

This is an experimental exhibition which attempts to addresses the question of what happens when artworks become part of a collection and are subsequently shown in many different contexts. Working from a potential list of works, the artworks will be changed during the course of the exhibition, with removal of artworks generating absences which call to mind gaps in our memory and point to the partially hidden nature of Museum collections. Additions of works will draw out new and perhaps unexpected associations, and new narratives will emerge within the overall structure of the exhibition. Other strategies such as repositioning works within the exhibition will be used to alter the pace of the exhibition. A list of these potential works will not be disclosed in advance.

The Hairy Man fancies Lorraine but fails to rise to the occasion, and Gem doesn’t like the neighbours coming in to ‘mind’ him. And if all that wasn’t bad enough, Little Gem makes his presence felt and…well…life is never the same again.

Niamh de Búrca has toured extensively in Northern Spain with Callino and has also sung in Estonia, and at the L’imaginaire Irlandaise Festival in France. She was the featured singer in the critically acclaimed stage show ‘Ragús’ in Galway. Mick O’Brien learned the Uilleann pipes in the renowned Piper’s Club, Thomas Street, Dublin. His first teachers included Leon Rowsome and Seán Seery. Mick has performed with various groups including Eurovision winners Secret Garden. Mark Kelly is a long-standing member of the world-famous Altan.
