As a unique arts festival, the Gay Theatre Festival Dublin aims to play a distinctive role in developing a vibrant and sustainable profile on the Dublin theatre scene. Using the skills and experience of principal Directors and Executive Committee built up over the last six years organising the old International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival, they aim to resource and facilitate artistic performance thus aiding artists to realise their artistic ambitions. The Festival is staffed by professionals on a voluntary basis. The Gay Theatre Festival Dublin will be centred around the city's Temple Bar area.

A fiery, Russian workaholic, he is also a terrifically gifted and insightful conductor who has taken the London Symphony Orchestra on an astonishing musical journey. At its Barbican home in London, the LSO promotes more concerts than any other classical music organisation in London and its LSO LIVE recordings made there,take the orchestra to a global audience of millions. The LSO is continually expanding its artistic programme as well as running a hugely successful LSO Music Education Centre and LSO Discovery programme. There’s very little this orchestra, under the direction of their Principal Conductor, can’t do. A newly commissioned solo exhibition that explores the complex and historical world of spectatorship. Adopting the early special effects technique of matte painting, Sander uses and quotes the visual intricacies associated with illusion, while critically examining the personal motivation of consumers who participate in spectator industries. Tourism, audiences, the traveller and the curious are all characters who take time out of everyday life and pay to see things. The gallery will be transformed into a single, circular screen, providing a constantly changing and looping landscape. Sander contrasts the simplicity of matte painting with the complexity of the current economic unknowns that form the background to many of our lives.

It is not Russia, not Poland, not Tatar… It views its Soviet past as another country, yet the past is omnipresent: the border is porous. To the outsider Ukraine is also a fantastically beautiful space where the borders between the structures of civilisation – houses, tower blocks, railways – are constantly being assailed by nature. Everywhere there is green.

 

This outrageous and hilarious parody of the 1990’s disco scene introduces us to four bouncers who portray over twenty different characters as we join them for a night out on the town. We meet giggly girls and lads preparing for the big night out, sleazy DJ’s, rugger buggers and drunken slobs! The evening’s events are set against the tatty glitzy glamour, flashing lights and pulsating beat of the night-club scene. But beneath the comedy we also get a glimpse of just how empty some of these characters lives really are. Back by popular demand after a successful sellout tour!

Following its trip to Young Prague 2009, Fingal County Youth Orchestra has had a busy year of public performances throughout the county and beyond. It has performed at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, Laurel Lodge Community Day Centre, St. Mary's Hospital Phoenix Park and in Buncrana Co. Donegal. Come along and enjoy its Annual Concert under the Baton of Alan Duff (Seniors) and of Karen Joyce (Juniors). The concert promises a variety of classical and contemporary pieces, complimented by some very special guests.

 

Redefining virtuosity through the collision of disability and dance, GIMP examines the uncompromising ways we are often identified or defined by our physicality. GIMP confronts our preconceptions, challenging us to re-think conventional notions about dance, performance and body image. GIMP is a word we are taught not to use as we are taught not to stare at people who have physical disabilities. But GIMP also means ‘fighting spirit’, ‘interwoven fabric’ and ‘trembling with ecstasy’, and it is all those meanings that truly define GIMP, the performance. Creating a tangible sensuality, a touch of voyeurism, GIMP forces our eyes and minds to perceive beauty not as a static artifact of conventional perfection but as a dynamic construct of effort and intentionality.

The evening brings together two works by a new voice from the UK. Both of these works continue Diallo’s aspiration to find emotional resonance in movement and attempt to capture something of the fleeting and fragile qualities of human life. The Wayside, a solo for Diallo, explores a physicality of fragility and resilience, inspired by the theme of departure. Between the Shingle and the Dune, a duet for Theo Clinkard and Diallo, evokes narratives of togetherness and shifting landscapes of distance and nearness. Created in 2005, this work was recently revived at the invitation of ROH2 at the Royal Opera House. For many years a dancer with Wayne McGregor’s Random Dance Company, Laïla Diallo is currently associate artist of ROH2 at the Royal Opera House and Woking Dance Festival. Her choreography has toured throughout the UK and internationally. She was awarded a Rayne Fellowship for Choreographers in 2006.

Peter Green (born Peter Allen Greenbaum, 29 October 1946, in Bethnal Green, London) is a British blues-rock guitarist and best known as the founder of the band Fleetwood Mac. A major figure and bandleader in the "second great epoch" of the British blues movement, Green inspired B. B. King to say, "He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats." Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page have both lauded his guitar playing as well. Green's playing was marked with idiomatic string bending and vibrato and economy of style. Though he played other guitars, he is best known for deriving a unique tone from his 1959 Gibson Les Paul. He was ranked 38th in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". His tone on the seminal song "The Super-Natural" was hailed as one of the fifty greatest of all time by Guitar Player.

 

There are influences that we carry in our bodies, in the way we move, that come from other people, places and events. This is true whether we are dancing, watching others perform or just being. In this new work, commissioned by DDF, choreographer Liz Roche creates a tapestry of movement meanings that reflect on the performers’ embodied connections between primary and secondary sources of inspiration. With a characteristically intimate yet agile movement palette, Roche and her dancers strive to bring these embodied connections, histories and perspectives to the fore. Established in 1999, Rex Levitates has become one of the most highly regarded dance companies in Ireland. Liz Roche’s choreographies have been performed in Ireland and the UK, USA and Asia, most recently performing at the South Bank Centre London, Judson Memorial Church, New York and Baryshnikov Arts Centre, New York.

In November 1994, two nineteen year old, upper middle class students Richard Elsey and Jamie Petrolini were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Mohammed el-Sayed. The victim had been stabbed 16 times in an attack which began as he waited in his car at traffic lights. There was no obvious reason for the murder. The victim was unknown to the perpetrators and there was no racial motive. The killing destabilised notions of respectability and bewildered public and media alike. In an audacious mix of tense drama and hilarious comedy, 'WEEPIE' addresses that bewilderment, pulling apart youthful notions of masculinity in a heady mix of absurd ritual, eroticism, magic realism and hard-hitting drama. Jonathan Ansell, who won the heart of the nation as lead vocalist in X-Factor runners-up G4, has been cast in his musical debut, starring in Bill Kenwright’s production of Jim Steinman and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Whistle Down The Wind.
