Description:
Axis was founded by a number of community development organisations and artists resident in the community of Ballymun, on the outskirts of Dublin, and was opened to the public in 2001. In May 2004 an Arts Executive was appointed with responsibility for the centre and for the dedicated provision of high quality arts experiences for arts practitioners and public in Ballymun and the greater Dublin area. In addition there is a 222 seater theatre, which is a multi-purpose performance and conference space, which hosts plays such as "From These Green Heights" and "The Townlands of Brazil" by Dermot Bolger, which were written about the people and places of Ballymun and were produced and premièred at axis. The theatre is also used by local drama groups, for example, the Holding Court Theatre company, whose pantomime attracts full houses over the Christmas period.Location: Main Street, Ballymun, Dublin 9
