All the covers on the door to the Hope Foundation. THE CIVILIANS, featuring Ciara as lead singer, will be playing their last gig for a long while here at the hallowed Lower Deck. The three piece girl band from West Cork love fun and love music and just have fun making music. Childhood friends, the girls finally got their act together to create their eclectic sounds. Best described as an experimental, shoegazing, transcendental sounding outfit. MIA SPARROW are a relatively new band that employ guitars, bass, drums, omnichord, drum machines, samples and effects to create noise firmly rooted in melody. They are playing the IMRO showcase gig in the Academy so their new sounds have not gone unnoticed.

Brian Walsh (Drunken Boat) has been recording and writing music and lyrics for the last 13 years. With in excess of 100 songs, many routed in folk and others in alternative styles, the music made varies from strumming some chords, to minutes of hissing amps and feedback, to improvisation and experimentation with recording techniques. These bedroom recordings resulted in 4 demos which were handed out to friends under the name Howie Walshberg.

Groom is a pop band from Dublin whose members are Mike, Wil, Brian, Jeroen and Ruan. With three albums under their belt to date: ‘Stitch’ (2004) and ‘All This Happened, More Or Less’ (2006) and ‘At The Natural History Museum’ (2009—out now on US label Tight Ship Records), a fourth is due in March 2010. Groom have played loads of gigs all over Ireland, and are planning on a short tour in Belgium in early 2010, all the while getting audiences to sing/clap/kiss along to their synthy pop/rock songs, calling each other names on stage and sometimes even handing out sweets. And they’ll continue to work hard on their music, because they’re also quite serious, intelligent fellows with an earnest outlook and a strong work ethic. Some of them even wear glasses
